Is Apple about to redefine computing with the much anticipated iSlate in the same way it already has for the mobile phone with the iPhone, or the humble music player with the iPod?

If the rumours, speculation, and evidence are anything to go by, the iSlate will be announced in January.

The rumour that Apple engineers are working on a new handheld touchscreen computer have been circulating for some time. Known in the industry as simply ‘the tablet’, it is hoped the device will enable video streaming, downloading and reading books (bye bye Kindle), listening to music, running Apps…the list goes on.

The rumours the iSlate will be announced in January have hit a high not seen since the release of the iPhone in 2007. Shares in Apple have soared in the last few days in anticipation of a ‘major product announcement’.

Apple has so far remained tight lipped about what the major product announcement will be, but an Apple insider let slip to The new York Times that “Steve is extremely happy about the new tablet.”

The blog MacRumours.com revealed that Apple had bought the rights to the iSlate.com domain name.

The cost of the iSlate is as much of a mystery as every other detail about the newest device from Apple. That won’t be a concern for regular readers of this blog who will all be awaiting the release date with baited breath so they can order their free iSlate and be among the very first iSlate owners.

Hopefully this latest product from Apple will meet it’s delivery targets when released, or everyone will be calling it the Apple Is Late.

Good logic here. Well written. At least we can be sure that, when the iSlate hits the marketplace, it won’t get nook’d in the manner of B&N’s device, that e-reader that went to market as an unfinished and very much flawed product.

Dont think batteries will be a problem since its size
allow more space for larger ones. What bugs me is
that you need an external mouse and keyboard even
though you can use the screen but with reduced area.
The name also is not so good, i would have chosen
something more intuitive : like itop or iscreen but not
    islate. Sounds like islave.

  5. Rob@Sheet Metal Bending Says:

Assuming the iSlate is an LCD screen, I think it will have the same problem as reading books on current 10″ netbooks — it’s just not as comfortable on the eyes and batteries to read books on that kind of screen.

Nice to see the iSlate, and that too for free, Apple needs to follow some specific business rule in order to stay in competition with the other giants.

Pleased to say that my guess’s on the hardware were better. What an amazing piece of hardware, there’s a few things missing which I will cover in a later post, but lots to make up for it, Im looking forward to collecting one in 59 days time!

Yeah, Very exciting. Yes, they’ll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now — we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format on that one. So now with the tablet you’re going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific
