Ultrasn0w has been released a bit earlier than expected and will allow anyone running yellowsn0w to upgrade to OS 3.0 and still have an unlocked iPhone 3G. Note you cannot unlock the iPhone 3G S with ultrasn0w.
There isn’t much more to say, except have fun and unlock your iPhone with redsn0w using these instructions:
- Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0
- Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy)
- Run Cydia or Icy
- Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or Icy. That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.
- Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia or icy and install ultrasn0w
- Reboot your iPhone 3G
- T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w
- Enjoy
So, you were happy with your iPhone 3G after you had used yellowsn0w to unlock your iPhone, then, like me, the OS 3.0 got too appealing – all that copy & paste functionality got the better of you and you upgraded your latest free iPhone only to find that your iPhone 3.0 was now relocked to O2/AT&T.
But fear not, for the iPhone Dev Team have come good and you can use redsn0w to unlock your iPhone 3.0 – note this is a 2G and 3G unlock only. You can only unlock the iPhone 3G S with ultrasn0w – which hasn’t been released yet.
What happened to yellowsn0w? Not alot. Not only did it never emerge from beta (although it worked fine on older baseband iPhones), but it lacked functionality. redsn0w is multifunctional and not only will it unlock your iPhone 3G on 3.0, it will also unlock and jailbreak all iPhones up to 3G 3.0, as well as jailbreak your iPod Touch.
